Inside prison walls, every sketch, every word carries a hidden truth.
Recently, Sita, one of our library beneficiaries, shared a drawing that spoke louder than words. Her artwork wasn’t just colours on paper — it was a window into her lived experience.
Her Story:
She softly said, “This is my real experience in prison and during court visits. We are often kept waiting for hours in buses or in court corridors, packed like objects. Sometimes it feels like we are being transported not as people, but as cargo in a truck.”
Her words were raw, her drawing even more so — capturing the silent pain that many women undergo in moments that our criminal justice system subjects them to, where dignity often gets stripped and humanity is lost among the routine tasks of searching, court visits, waiting in the close confines of a waiting room, like herds and then again packed in the police van without any hope or update.

For her, art is not just expression, it is release, a space where silence transforms into story, and pain into resilience. Her pen strokes found a medium to release her inner self and showcase her feelings on the paper…
