Altaf is associated with us since he was 5 years of age. He was a student under Grace Mission, after that he was under our Children of Vulnerable Families (CVF) Community Project. His disinterest in studies lead him to join in bad habits with his friends. He has 3 elder sisters and one brother. From all of them, only one sister has completed her education till 10th. He is the youngest child in the family and mother works as a sweeper in JLN stadium.
We admitted Altaf to Asha Deep Foundation (ADF) in order to provide him with good education. When Altaf got admitted to ADF, we came to know that he has few inappropriate habits which he learned from his previous community environment. He was also involved into smoking cigarettes, beating and abusing children. He never used to clean his bed, cupboards and just wasted time by roaming here and there in the hostel premises. He was aimless with very poor hygiene.
Our psychologist did Individual counselling sessions with him and observed that unlike any other kid he was aimless and with further tracking he admitted that he smokes. We also did group sessions with him in which other children also complained about his inappropriate behavior with them.
We tried to help Altaf by telling him how adversely these things are going to affect his future and health. Due to his bad habits how far these habits will take him from good things.
After 2 months of our regular individual and group sessions other children reported that his behavior is better than before. He is trying to learn new things and utilize time. He now does not smoke and now has more sense of responsibility. These interventions & sessions also helped him to realize his potential and enhance his talents like dancing & acting.
